On August 16, the students commemorated Dia del Niño (Children's Day). Every August 16, Children's Day is commemorated in Paraguay, in remembrance of the child martyrs who offered their lives, in defense of their country, in the bloody battle of Acosta Ñu, in the war against the Triple Alliance. This war, which lasted from 1865 to 1870, pitted Paraguay against the allied armies of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. It is estimated that in those 5 years between 200,000 and 300,000 Paraguayans died, which then amounted to half of the country's population and of which 80% were men. Here are some pictures of the art they made for the day.
